StateMatcher FAQ

Questions people ask before they begin.

Choosing the right StateMatcher report

Which StateMatcher report should I start with?

Start with the report that matches the decision you are facing now. Use U.S. State Match if you are still deciding which states deserve attention. Use Deep Dive if one state is already serious. Use Compare if you are choosing between two states. Use Action Plan when you have a likely destination and want help turning it into a practical investigation and moving plan.

Do I have to start with U.S. State Match?

No. State Match is the natural starting point when the country still feels wide open. If you already have a state in mind, Deep Dive may be more direct. If two states are competing, Compare may fit better. If you already know where you are likely to move, Action Plan is designed for that later stage.

What is Big Picture?

Big Picture is StateMatcher's free high-level starting point. It helps you see how your priorities, needs, concerns, constraints, and tradeoffs may shape a move before you choose a more detailed report.

Can I use more than one StateMatcher report?

Yes. The reports stand on their own, but they also work naturally as a sequence. You might begin with State Match, investigate one promising state with Deep Dive, compare two finalists, and use Action Plan once your likely destination becomes clearer.

How personalization works

Are StateMatcher reports generic state rankings?

No. StateMatcher uses your questionnaire answers and the context of the report you chose to focus the analysis on your actual household, budget, work situation, healthcare needs, children, housing, transportation, climate, safety, lifestyle priorities, and other practical constraints. The goal is fit, not a universal ranking of states.

Why does StateMatcher use a questionnaire?

A move that works for one household may be a poor fit for another. The questionnaire gives StateMatcher the personal context needed to connect state and local evidence to the things that could actually change your decision.

Can I reuse my questionnaire?

Yes. StateMatcher and FlagSeek use a shared account and questionnaire system. When you already have current answers on file, you may be able to reuse them and complete only the additional information needed for a particular report.

Does StateMatcher adapt to different life situations?

Yes. When relevant to your answers, reports can place additional emphasis on employment and realistic wages, retirement planning, healthcare and ongoing care, children and schools, housing status, accessibility, family circumstances, and LGBTQ+ relocation concerns. Information that does not apply to you should not be treated as equally important just because it appears in a generic moving checklist.

What the reports do

What does U.S. State Match give me?

U.S. State Match helps narrow the country to states worth investigating based on your priorities and practical constraints. It is designed for the stage when you know you may want to move but have not yet chosen the state.

What does U.S. State Deep Dive give me?

Deep Dive pressure-tests one state against your situation in greater detail. It can also surface important regional and metro-level differences that a statewide average may hide.

What does U.S. State Compare give me?

Compare examines two serious state options side by side so differences in cost, work, healthcare, housing, schools, taxes, transportation, safety, climate, and everyday practicality are easier to evaluate in context.

What does U.S. State Action Plan give me?

Action Plan helps turn a likely destination into a practical sequence of investigations and next steps. It is designed for the stage when you are no longer asking only where you might fit, but what you should verify and do next.

Jobs, retirement, children, and healthcare

Can StateMatcher help if I need to find a job after I move?

Yes. When local employment matters, StateMatcher can examine job demand, realistic wage ranges, occupational fit, licensing or credential issues where relevant, major employment centers, and the relationship between earnings and local costs rather than looking at salary alone.

Explore Find a Job
Does StateMatcher provide retirement-specific guidance?

Yes. Depending on the report and your answers, StateMatcher can consider retirement income, taxes, healthcare, housing, insurance, climate, transportation, family access, accessibility, long-term care, and the practical difference between moving while still working and moving after retirement.

Explore Retire in the U.S.
What if I am moving with children?

When your household includes children, StateMatcher can bring school districts, age or grade, education options, healthcare, custody or family logistics, housing, commute, and other child-related concerns into the analysis. The goal is to make the school information relevant to the children who are actually moving with you.

Can StateMatcher consider healthcare or ongoing care needs?

Yes. Where relevant, reports can examine health-system access, insurance and network questions, medications, specialists, major providers, accessibility, caregiving, and long-term-care considerations. StateMatcher helps identify what deserves investigation; it does not replace medical or insurance advice.

After purchase

What happens after I buy a report?

Depending on the report, you will confirm the state or states involved, complete or reuse your questionnaire, and provide any additional report-specific information. StateMatcher then prepares the report and its status appears in My Reports.

Why does checkout or report delivery sometimes take me to FlagSeek?

StateMatcher is a FlagSeek company and uses shared FlagSeek infrastructure for secure account access, payments, questionnaires, report generation, delivery, and fulfillment. The report itself remains a StateMatcher product even when part of the secure workflow is hosted by FlagSeek.

Where do I find my completed StateMatcher reports?

Your StateMatcher purchases, report status, and completed reports are available through the shared My Reports area after you sign in.

Open My Reports
How long does report generation take?

Timing varies by report and workload. More detailed reports may take longer because they are built section by section and can require more evidence and analysis. You can follow the report's status in My Reports.

Privacy and professional limits

How does StateMatcher use my personal information?

StateMatcher uses the information you provide to personalize and deliver reports, operate your account, maintain security, and provide the service. The shared family Privacy Policy explains the information collected, service providers involved, retention, security, and the choices available to you. Personal information is not sold.

Read the Privacy Policy
Does a partner or discount code give someone access to my questionnaire?

No. Referral attribution does not by itself give a partner access to your questionnaire, purchases, report contents, health information, financial information, family details, or other private profile information. Any separate sharing of contact information requires the applicable consent.

Is StateMatcher legal, tax, medical, financial, insurance, or real-estate advice?

No. StateMatcher reports are planning and decision-support documents. They can help you identify issues, compare evidence, and prepare better questions, but they do not replace qualified legal, tax, medical, financial, insurance, real-estate, education, or other professional advice.

Does StateMatcher tell me where I should move?

No. StateMatcher helps you investigate fit, tradeoffs, risks, and next steps. It is designed to support your decision, not make the decision for you.
